Scholarships

Whanganui Collegiate School has introduced the 5 Pillars Scholarship programme aimed at expanding opportunities for students to thrive within our learning community. This Scholarship is for 2026 enrollment and is only available to new Year 9 and Year 10 boarding students. These scholarships are worth up to 50% of boarding fees.

Music & Performing Arts

For students who show promise in music, vocal performance, drama, or public speaking. This category celebrates creativity and artistic expression, seeking individuals who will contribute to the vibrant cultural life of Whanganui Collegiate School.

What You’ll Need

Parent/Caregiver Statement
A written statement (approximately 300 words) explaining why your child should be considered for this scholarship.

Student Statement
A written statement (approximately 300 words) describing your achievements and what you would offer to Whanganui Collegiate School.

Performance Video
A video (maximum 3 minutes) showcasing your musical, vocal, drama, or public speaking performance.

Character Reference – Music/Drama Teacher
A reference from your music or drama teacher.

Character Reference – Community Member
A reference from someone within your community.

Achievements and Awards
A list of your achievements and awards, with supporting proof attached.

Sporting

Designed for athletes who show promise in their chosen sport and show potential to represent Whanganui Collegiate School with pride. We value dedication, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the field.

Our most prestigious category, recognising students who demonstrate excellence across at least three of the School’s Five Pillars: Academic, Sport, Culture, Leadership, and Service. This scholarship is for well-rounded individuals who embody the spirit of WCS.

External Bursaries

Ministry of Education Boarding Bursary Allowance

If your family lives in a remote area or faces other barriers to achieving at school, you can apply for funding administered by the Ministry of Education to grant your child the opportunity to board and focus on their studies.

External Scholarships

Maori EducationTrust | Toitu Kaupapa Maori 

Matauranga Secondary Scholarships

Scholarships administered by the Maori Education Trust are available throughout all secondary school years. These scholarships include the:

  • Maori Education Trust Boarding Scholarship for Maori boarding students with demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude who are enrolled at a secondary boarding school.

  • Maori EducationTrust Years 10-13 Scholarship for Years 10 to 13 Maori students with demonstrated financial need.

  • Ti Maru Maori Trust Secondary Boarding Scholarship for Year 9 Maori students with demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude who are enrolled at a secondary boarding school.
