Where the funds are needed

While the College Board makes reasonable surpluses, this is in no way sufficient to maintain and provide the ongoing investment in our very large, complex and historic heritage campus. The requirement to invest is ongoing and substantial, to ensure the School’s offer is fit for purpose, and it remains the leading co-educational boarding and day School in the country. Keeping pace with the expectations of parents.

Upgrade of the Boys’ Houses

Boarding is at the heart of life at Whanganui Collegiate School and is central to our proposition to prospective pupils and their parents. It is essential, therefore, that we ensure our Houses provide the standard of accommodation today’s families expect. We need to spend a minimum of $2 million, but ideally $3 million refurbishing and upgrading each of our boys’ Houses, which is why the support of the community is so critical.

Godwin House

We have had confirmation, that although Godwin House has water tightness issues, it is safe and suitable for accommodation and living purposes for the next five years, or so. The College Board has reviewed preliminary designs for a number of replacement options which range from $4-5 million.

Restoration of the World War I Memorial Organ

The School’s Chapel organ was commissioned by the Old Boys of the School as a memorial to the 163 former students, masters and staff in WW1. Of the total amount required to restore the organ, the School must itself raise another $200,000, to be eligible to apply for grants to complete the project.

Financial Resilience

The WCS Foundation was established to ensure the School can meet its ongoing capital and investment obligations from the returns of the endowment. With your support, we can build a substantial capital base to future proof the School, as well as enabling it to fund bursaries, sport, non-integrated buildings and help upgrade amenities.
