Ministry of Education Boarding Bursary Allowance

If your family lives in a remote area or faces other barriers to achieving at school, you can apply for funding administered by the Ministry of Education to grant your child the opportunity to board and focus on their studies.

External Scholarships

Maori Education Trust | Toitu Kaupapa Maori Matauranga Secondary Scholarships

Scholarships administered by the Maori Education Trust are available throughout all secondary school years.  These scholarships include the:

  • Maori Education Trust Boarding Scholarship available for Maori boarding students with demonstrated financial need, academic abioity and aptitude who are enrolled at a secondary boarding school. Applications close 31 March 2024.
  • Maori Education Trust Years 10-13 Scholarship available to Years 10 to 13 Maori students with demonstrated financial need. Applications close 31 March 2024.
  • Ti Maru Maori Trust Secondary Boarding Scholarship available for Year 9 Maori students with demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude who are enrolled at a secondary boarding school. Applications close 31 March 2024.

Toloa Secondary School Scholarships (STEAM)

The Toloa Secondary School Scholarships aim to inspire and support Pacific students in their engagement with STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. For more information:

Kiley Family Memorial Trust Scholarship

Secondary Scholarships and Boarding Scholarships for Taranaki/Whanganui based students school students to pursue their secondary school studies. Preference is given to students from less well-off backgrounds who would otherwise have difficulty paying their fees and meeting other costs.

Spirit of New Zealand

Smith Family Leadership Scholarship

The Smith Family Leadership Scholarship is available to any student attending Whanganui Collegiate School, aged 16–18 years, to support Leadership Development. The Scholarship supports a 10 Day Development Voyage on the Spirit of New Zealand, a square-rigged sailing ship, offered by the Spirit of Adventure Trust. Applications close 18 June.
